Winter White Martinis

Holiday Dining

One of my all time favorite martini recipes is a smooth white cosmopolitan.  The cosmopolitan became famous during the hit HBO television series ” Sex and the City” as cast members sipped on this sultry delight. It is one of the easiest cocktails to configure and sure to be an entertaining hit.  The recipe I use is a white martini and it goes perfectly with the festive season on its way.

White Cosmopolitan

Serves 2

1 cup of white cranberry juice

4 ounces of vodka

2 ounces of cointreau

Directions: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add cranberry juice, vodka, and cointreau. Shake to combine well. Strain into two large martini glasses. Serve immediately.

This recipe can be adjusted to your convenience.

Holiday Wreaths

Holiday WreathsAs the holidays are approaching, there are many beautiful holiday wreaths available. Wreaths are spectacular as they can be used during the festive season and if they are a neutral  color that the owner is comfortable using, can be used year round. Many wreathes are available and can be found at a number of retail stores. I enjoy the ones located at Winners as they have a nice selection.  Many other decor stores have selections and a variety to fit every taste and budget. When looking to purchase a wreath make sure it is one that is durable and can be used for a few years to come. Also, make sure that it can be easily stored as some holiday decor are very beautiful when displayed but, very hard to place for another season.  Check winners.ca for holiday decor near you.

Holiday Gift Boxes

Pretty holiday gift boxes

The holidays are just around the corner and as parties will soon be going into full swing. Many of us are trying not only to find the perfect holiday gift but, also the perfect package to place this special gift in. The packaging of gifts are just as important ans the content of the gift itself. These beautiful boxes cab be found at Winners and are very inexpensive. Prices range from high to low and are based on the boxes decor. They can be found in many beautiful and stunning festive colors of the season.  My favorites include both the silver and the black and green. After the holiday season these boxes can be used to store other items such as keepsakes. these also make beautiful decor centerpieces. Happy Shopping! With gift boxes like these ones it is hard not to purchase.

As Autumn arrives…….

As fall arrives we will spend more time indoors with the ones we love. A great way to start to slide into winter months is by entertaining at home. There are some perfect recipes for entertaining at home whether it is an intimate dinner party or an extravagant affair.  Great food and good conversation are the heart of any gathering. One of my favourite recipes includes a great souffle although, it can be quite filling but, if baked in small ramekins it can be delicious. I love it and everytime I make it the compliments are to die for. Please check Naturally Thin by Bethenny Frankel for some great recipes.

Classic Zucchini Souffle

4 cups of shredded zucchini

1 1/4 teaspoons of salt

1 tablespoon of melted butter

4 eggs

1 teaspoon of fresh thyme, chopped

1/8 teaspoon of  ground black pepper

pinch of red pepper flakes

1 cup of  Montery Jack cheese

1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan

1/4 cup of all purpose biscuit baking mix

Toss the zucchini and salt together and place into a colander set it in the sick. this will allow it to drain for an hour. Squeeze the remaining liquid out of the zucchini and set aside.

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Brush six ramekins with butter. If you would like to use a regular souffle bowl you can do that also.

Whisk the eggs in a mixing bowl with the thyme, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir in the zucchini, Monterey Jack Cheese, Parmesan and baking mix, until combined. Pour into the prepared ramekins or souffle dish.

Bake, uncovered until set and golden on top. 20 minutes is the recommended time but, I tend to bake it for 40 instead. The souffle is done when a knife is inserted into the center and comes out clean.
